This is not a question. Just a "Oh, My". We are filling out passport info. One question is "Countries to be visited". I called Barbara Key (bless her for all her listening!). We know that won't really be determined until later in the year by the team. But Barbara asked "what's something on your daughter's heart?" So I ask Danielle and she says "Afghanistan". Now Mama is having a "Oh my Father in Heaven! prepare me for this" moment. Wow, how God works.

Well Dawn let me first say, "Welcome to Fusion!" It's amazing how many parents have that same experience when their kids come to the program and go overseas. We rejoice in the Lord for Danielle and her commitment to go to the "hard places" and will do everything we can to prepare her for service on the other side of the planet. But rest assured, we will also be praying for you and all the other parents as they trust the Lord and allow Him to guide their children into the next phase of their lives. My kids are only pre schoolers so I cannot even begin to guess what this may be like for you but rest assured I will be praying for you and your family as Danielle serves. God Bless! Thanks for your question Lisa. We mailed an acceptance packet at the end of last week. Brad should be receiving it in the mail in the next couple of days. Please let me know if you have any questions! My phone number is 804-219-1063.

Lisa, I would also recommed that you and your son Brad register on this website (don't worry; we dont share your info outside of Fusion or send out spam...). There is a private section for students and parents of students with lots of good info that is not on the "open" side of the site. This is also were we will put any pressing updates for the program for both students and parents. Just click on LOG IN and CREATE AN ACCOUNT. We will get you approved and set up. From then on, just log in, and go to MY GROUPS under the MY ACCOUNT Tab. Welcome Aboard!

I didn't realize the second week of ground school would be on campus. In dorms there? Also, we got an email saying Allie needs to sign something scholarship-related at the campus. Would it be possible for someone to get her there so we can finish up the financial end of things? Missing my Allie like ca-razy. I thought their phones would be off limits for two DAYS, not two weeks. Gulp. Glad to hear ground school is going well. Praying for you all!

I know that Thanksgiving and Christmas break seem a long ways off but just thought I'd throw it out there for families who live a long way from KC. We live about 30 min from the airport so if your child needs to park a car, get a ride to or from an airport, spend a night waiting for a cheaper flight, whatever we can do to make it easier let us know and we will do what we can. MIchelle, thanks for your willingness to help accommodate candidates and their familes as they travel around holiday. Rhonda, we have had all of the students on campus to finish any pending Admission needs they had. If she still has something pending, she will be on campus Tuesday. Everyone did great during Ground School and we are all ready for the Second Phase of the program. All of the students are in their cohorts and have been assigned to their countries. Pray as we prepare to take the gospel to the nations - we are really excited. I pray that you may be active in sharing your faith so that you will not miss out on any good thing we have in Christ Jesus - Phil. 1:6

So glad they all "survived" ground school. I got to hear a few details this weekend. WOW!!! Glad it wasn't me! But thank God for their willing hearts. Also, we only live 15 minutes from the camp (don't be jealous, I don't think my kid wants me to come out to often). We can extend the same offer that the Hume family extended. 816-628-2671 I am planning (looking forward) to feeding them a home cooked (and well balanced) meal in the near future. I promise you, if they ate what was provided during ground school, my cooking won't hurt them!!! God bless! (Amy Fehr's family)

The phase 2 packing list has already been distributed to the students prior to coming to the program in the Acceptance Packet and it is online. Hello Dawn! I wanted to clarify on the Phase Two Packing List. Generally the specific Phase II packing list is not released until late October as it is dictated by the local missionaries on the field. Each cohort has a slightly different packing list because they are traveling to different continents, hemispheres, climates, etc. There is a general Phase Two list now online for parents to reference. The packing list is available in the 2009-2010 Parents Group under My Account and My Groups once you are logged in. Hope this helps!

The teams are going to the Sangre De Christo Mountains outside Westcliffe, Colorado. They will be honing some of the survival skills they have been learning as well as camping, hiking, rappelling, and summiting a fourteen thousand foot mountain! Currently the weather looks great (clear, no rain or snow. highs in the mid fifties, lows in the high 20's-low 30's). The group will drive to the Denver area Thursday night and then down to Westcliffe Friday-Sunday. Monday they return to Kansas City. I will be flying to Denver and meeting the group on Thrusday evening and headding back to Richmond, VA on Monday. Hope this helps!

Well I found a picture of your "baby girl" and put it up in the Colorado section (last picture at the bottom right I think)! By the look of the picture she is certainly "packing on the weight" (a little backpacking humor...). Actually, you have beautiful daughter and she has done a GREAT job at Fusion! For the little time I have spent with this group, they have really been a joy to work with. Unfortunately I only get to see them three times this fall and not again until December. :-( Shawn has done a EXCELLENT job leading them and he has proven to me that he is God's man for the job. See Ya!

Yep, Scott that is my "baby girl"!!! And she certainly does seem to be "packing on the weight!" Mom here is considering tying her to her bed, so if she doesn't return to KC you know Shawn and his guys didn't train her well enough to figure out the knots I use!! LOL! No, to tell you the truth, ya'll send up prayers, the more I learn about her destination the more my "mommy heart" says "NOOO!!!" But then I'm reminded again, that is what she was raised for, to glorify her Father. That still doesn't mean mom doesn't need alot of prayer! The bright side, (if I send her back to KC!) is that we will see her in just another 4-5 weeks! Much shorter then 2-3 months!

Dawn, we all need the prayers! I know that all of the training they are receiving and the Lord watching over them they will be awesome when they get to their destinations. They are being equipped to spread the word of God to all nations! I know that God has a special plan for all of our young people who opened their hearts to answer His call! That said, I will be their right with you at the airport after they leave crying and doing what mom's do, worry. :) Until they are back. Our prayer is for them to grow in Christ and share that with others in all that they do. I enjoyed spending time with Brad this week and can see the change in him already! God works in such awesome ways!

Thank you ladies for your amazing comments. It is awesome to see these kids-your kids- be transformed by the renewing of their minds. I agree though that the hardest part is coming; watcing them get on that plane and head off solely in the hands of the Lord. Honestly, I think Fusion impacts parents as much as it does the kids. Thank you for trusting Christ and placing your children at his feet to be used for His glory!

Thanks Mary Kay! We are excited that Jessie is having a great time in Fusion. The Fusion process places everyone (including leadership) in a position of having to come face to face with Jesus Christ. This forces everyone to personally examine themselves and their walk with Christ and make improvements and corrections in that relationship. For many that means taking (perhaps for the first time) personal responsibility for their faith their actions therein. The camaraderie and accountability helps spur everyone on toward righteousness which can be measured in our behavior (or our marked response to God’s Word in our hearts). This is a spiritual maturing process similar to refining a precious metal (using heat and pressure to bring impurities out and to the surface to be removed) thus bringing more value and preciousness to the original tainted ore. What is even more amazing is that the Lord takes us through this process throughout our lives; so that every day we can look just a little more like Jesus. Thus, the refining process at Fusion just a beginning for these kids. It points them in a direction (Christ likeness) and equips them to get there. The process is not perfect and can even be quite messy. But those who come through it successfully never seem to complain at completion or want to return to who they were before. Thank you for letting Jessie come and experience this process at Fusion. We are in your debt!

We were so blessed to have many of the fusion students to our home for a meal, hayride and games this past weekend. I was very impressed by the students I was able to talk to. I asked one young man what the best part of fusion was so far. I expected to hear about hiking in Colorado, transportation training, or some other adventure. Instead he said the best part was the accountability among the group. He pointed out that his cohort holds him accountable to share the gospel wherever he goes. You just don't get a response like that from most college students. I couldn't be more blessed to have my child in fusion and having this kind of experience!

Although, the fact that she just shared on facebook that she hasn't slept for 28 hours straight, and fixing to go out on PTT2 doesn't make mom have a calm feeling! Contingency went really well. It is a shame that we have to train "m's" that way today, but I praise God that we have the means available to prepare in this way. It was as difficult for the leadership to put the candidates through this as it was for them to go through it. We finished a week long training event that included lots of classroom time focusing on risk management, abatement and mitigation, and training for certain contingencies. We also went through an evasion course and learned how to survive in difficult situations. The candidates were pushed to the limit, but learned developed a learned hopefulness through this limited, graded experience. We are so proud of all of them and wish everyone a wonderful Advent and celebration of the New Year. Enjoy your break together.

Attention Africa Parents! There is a packing list for the Africa Teams listed under the Parents/Leaders Tab! This is important as they are severely restricted on their baggage weight limit. Check it out and pass it on!

Thanks for all of your hard work, this has been a, lets say, "interesting" experience for a mother. How long will it take if I needed to contact Anastasia while overseas in case of an emergency, and how often will she be able to contact her family? A safe and happy new year to all!

Thanks Ruth! It has been an interesting experience for us too! :-) You ask a great question. You should be able to contact your daughter fairly quickly in an emergency (less than 24 hrs for a reply). As to how often she will contact you, she should have opportunities weekly or better via email or phone (I say "should" because this is the African bush we are talking about...) We will provide families with specific contact information during the parent briefing on Saturday Januay 9. Hope this helps!

Ruth, any parents who are not planning to attend the Shield Ceremony should send their email addresses and best contact numbers to me at bkey@imb.org. I will have a hand-out for parents that will include travel itinerary and contact numbers here that parents can use in case of emergency. I will also create email distribution lists that will be used to eamil updates to all team parents as needed. I can email contact info to you directly via email. Please let me know if you have any questions.

I am anxious to hear some kind of word from Nathan. Has anyone heard from the Odigard team in South Asia?

Hey Scott and Shawn, Heard you might be visiting team Asia? If you see our kiddos could you take a group pic and send to facebook or post somewhere so we could download it? Need to get a pic of them in the country. Trying to keep our kiddos in front of the church. Out of sight is out of mind. Also do you see any problem with our church family writing cards to our girls (one in Asia, one in South America) and then our scanning them and sending via e-mail? Thanks so much!

i am visiting all of the teams. i just left haiti and am in peru right now. in the next few weeks i will be visiting europe, n africa, then on to aisia. i will do my best to put the pic up and i think the card/email idea is great. all of the teams are doing well and being stretched in many ways. it is great to see how God is using these young men and women to impact the nations all over the world. literally i have names of people from 5 different continents that the Lord is using our team to minister to. continue to pray for them and their fight against the evil one. the task is so important and they need to take ownership of their faith, realizing that the one that is in them is greater than the one that is in the world.

Shawn, Thanks for your commitment. N called us from S.Asia this morning. It is the first time I have talked to him since he left. I am so encouraged at the work that God is doing in his life as well as his team members. Truly amazing things have been happening. They definitely are getting a grasp of what is really important and what isn't.
